Nina-Maria Wanek

Nina-Maria Wanek has been doing research on Byzantine music for over twenty years. In 2006 she was awarded her habilitation for Historical Musicology at the University of Vienna. Her areas of expertise are Byzantine and Modern Greek music from the Middle Ages until today, Western plainchant, and twentieth-century Austrian music. From 2015 to 2020 she was principal investigator of a major research-project on the “Cultural transfer of music between Byzantium and the West.” The results of this project will be published as a monograph by Brill in 2022. Since 2020 she has been the leader of another research project at Vienna University about “Psalm Composition in Middle and Late Byzantium”.
